Motion graphics experiment

Made a little treasure chest game asset

Some very early testing of movement. Not all the animations function properly yet, and the cape isn’t flwoing like it should at all, but it’s beginning to look like a game!

(Sorry about the horrid video quality!)

Almost done with blocking out the track

Will be adding buildings and signs and stuff to make the scenery more interesting.

Made an attempt at making some generic motion graphics in Eevee (Blender 2.8)

Here’s all the animals you can summon.

The wolf can attack, the mice can creep through small gaps and holes, the bat can fly and the rabbit can jump far. You must use them all together to solve the most difficult puzzles in the game.

Please don’t mind the huge crazy particle effects. We didn’t manage to adjust them in time for the school assignment deadline, but we will fix it later.

One more preview snippet

We handed it in!

There’s still A LOT of content missing, but it is functional - You can spawn animals and do puzzles!

At least three people on our team have decided to keep working on it during the summer vacation, so hopefully you can expect a free release on itch.io in the near future.

"Hi! I just started doing some really basic low poly stuff but I have no idea how to do hair or asymmetric stuff very well, since I don’t want to mess up with mirroring somehow. Do you have any tips for a beginner??"

With hair, you shouldn’t really fear to go asymmetrical, but it can be a good guide when you’re blocking out the size and general shape around the head.

For lowpoly, hair can be very simple. Don’t overthink it. Hair can usually be expressed with a single flat colour. Adding a few stripes of varying degrees of thickness can help sell it, too. If you’re making big curly hair, you can put together a mess of “balls” and give the underside a darker hue to show the volume. Cut the squares into triangles where you want the shadow to taper off, and just colour in one of the two parts.

Here’s a little video I made, showing how you can use vertex paint in combination with very low resolution textures to create a smooth hair colour:

Hope this helps a little - Good luck with your modeling!

Fleech has repurposed some of the robot parts I made for him and turned them into a flying qt3.14!
