Made a little treasure chest game asset

Testing out various methods for making “cartoony” textures. The plugin SoMuchMaterials for Substance Painter is a great help for making a base, while deep learning AI style-transfer algorithms can make stuff even more painterly, without much manual work required.

Here are some models I made for my 3D exam last semester.

Made a skin for the R8 revolver in Counter Strike: Global Offensive!

Well, it’s not technically a skin, because it’s a PBR material not supported by the Source Engine. I might try making a version that can actually looks half decent in-game later, though.

Update: Did a simple test with just the diffuse and the normal map in CS:GO

Will potentially look a little better once I get the specularity map baked into the alpha channel of the normal map.

I MADE IT! I FINISHED MY EXAMS, JUST IN TIME!

I have been working all day round for more than a week and I feel completely broken, but damn, it’s nice to be done!

Redshift really saved me - It’s extremely much faster than Cycles and Arnold. Really recommend it!

There are sometimes a hole in the side of these kind of shrines, because they’re dedicated to the fox spirits, and so actual foxes can enter through the gap and grab whatever offerings the villagers have laid out for them inside.

Really dreading having to put all of these assets together for my final render of the scene. Getting all the materials applied correctly, and setting up good lighting and stuff… I have no experience with it.

Almost done with the ground for my fox spirit shrine scene. Got it baked down from 1.6 million triangles, to a measly 1450. Textured in Substance Painter.

Alrighty then! Project Borealis is a team effort by a group of dumb dreamers (me included) who are working on HL3, now that Valve has officially abandoned it.

Yes, HL3. Half Life 3. Yep.

So, seeing as we’re not just making a simple mod to finish off the story, but what we hope to be full-fledged new Half Life game, we’re using Unreal Engine and modern PBR materials and stuff. We want it to be pretty, new and shiny.

So I learned how to use Substance Painter today, and made the crowbar itself. I think it looks pretty smooth, despite just being 246 triangles!
